Professional Experience
Philip’s specialist areas cover the Community, Health, Education and Philanthropy sectors, and he has searched and recruited over 700 successful Chief Executives and senior managers, with a specific interest in the community and health sectors. He is currently Deputy Chair of Freemasons Foundation Victoria. Philip has lectured in HR at Victoria University on the Master of Health Science program and has been a member of the Advisory Panel on Disability Studies at Deakin University.
Commencing his early career as a Solicitor in South Africa, he joined a major client as Director of Legal Affairs and was later given responsibility for Group Human Resources. After fourteen years with the company, he joined an international consulting group and later became Chief Executive of Montefiore Homes for the Aged in Melbourne (now Jewish Care), which gave him personal insight into the challenges of running a major community healthcare organisation in the not-for-profit environment.
He has extensive experience in Board leadership and governance, and fully understands the expectations of NFP Boards. In South Africa Philip was President of an organisation that established a Matriculation school for disadvantaged black children that has won international awards.
Over the past 26 years he has built a strong reputation for successfully recruiting in the not-for-profit sector. Philip is a regular writer and public speaker on issues relating to leadership and management in non-profits.
In January 2021 Philip was proud to become a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) for his significant service to community organisations.
